American: Oguchi Onyewu (SCP) – Gooch is likely to start in the heart of defense for the Lions, who will chase after their 20th Portuguese Cup crown. This piece of silver is actually a double prize, as winning would upgrade Sporting from the Europa League playoff round to the group phase.
Sporting have won 11 of Onyewu’s 15 starts this term and have never lost to Académica away from home. The underdogs, who finished 12th in league play this season, are also 0-2 against the Lisbon giants in cup play.
DUTCH PROMOTION/RELEGATION FINALS
VVV Venlo vs. Helmond Sport (Sunday, 8:30 am)
American: Charles Kazlauskas (HS) – The right-sider returns from suspension, probably to reclaim the right wing position for the last and biggest game of the season. The visitors must rally in the decisive second leg after collapsing late in a 2-1 loss at home on Thursday.
Helmond Sport have been out of the Eredivisie since 1984, and hold the short memory of last year’s promotion final drubbing by Excelsior. They will arrive with six wins from a 10-game road unbeaten streak, but are also winless on the last eight trips to nearby Venlo.

The top-ranked Superliga defense of Nordsjælland has allowed just five goals in winning seven of their last 10 away matches. However, FCN have posted just one victory from 12 previous visits to Brøndby.

Your question answered: Recycling flatware?

The question
We want to start a recycling project at our school, and hopefully other schools in the district will also join in. We are trying to find out if we can start recycling the plastic silverware we use every day at school. We know the city of Newton accepts No. 6 plastic bottles, jugs and jars. We want to know will they accept our silverware to be recycled if it is clean? — Recycle Buddies, Santa Fe 5/6 Center
The answer
At this time, it does not appear there is a place for the recycling of plastic silverware.
According to ehow.com, Plastic utensils are marked with a No. 6. It is possible to recycle No. 6 plastics, but most places will not accept them because it costs too much to recycle them.
According to Roy Patton, director of Harvey County Transfer Sanitation, the contractor which handles recyclables for Newton and Harvey County will not accept plastic flatware.
Patton checked with a company in Wichita that will recycle flatware — The Miller Group of Wichita.
According to Roger Lyon of the Miller Group, plastic silverware is loaded with other products and sold as “mixed plastics.”
“Plastic silverware is made from polystyrene,” Lyon said. “It is the same as CD cases, or plastic communion cups. We take it, and we sell it as a mixed plastic — but we don’t cover our costs.”
He said he would not encourage anyone to actively collect plastic silverware — and he does not know what happens to the plastic flatware once it is sold to a company in Iowa called Northeast Iowa Recycling.
Northeast Recycling representatives unavailable for comment.

Pirlo: Juventus want to lift the Coppa Italia
May 16th, 2012Andrea Pirlo has made it clear that Juventus are hungry for more silverware after winning the Serie A title as they set their sights on claiming the Coppa Italia.
The Old Lady lock horns Napoli in the final this Sunday evening, and Pirlo has insisted that the Turin giants are eager to complete the domestic double.
“We’ve started an important week. On Sunday we’ll show the right concentration and desire to lift this trophy,” Pirlo said to Sky Sport.
“We’ve laid the foundations to do something great. When you start to achieve success, you want to get more. We’ll have the chance to lift further cups and trophies and to play more finals. We can definitely win more silverware.”
However, Pirlo acknowledged that Napoli will not be pushovers in this weekend’s encounter.
“Napoli are a great side, they’ve showed their value over recent years, and will certainly give their all. It will be a tough match.”
The final at the Stadio Olimpico kicks off at 21.00CET.

Display recalls Harvey House heyday
May 14th, 2012China, silverware and a new painting now on display in Union Station recall the Harvey House restaurants that millions of rail passengers experienced during the mid 20th century.
The items can be viewed on the east side of the station’s grand hall, near the space that once housed Union Station’s Harvey House. The watercolor painting, depicting a period scene from the restaurant chain’s heyday, was commissioned from regional artist Marlin Rotach. It shows diners in the space that now serves as the boardroom of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The painting is titled “Homage to Hopper — Harvey House” because the artist was inspired in part by Edward Hopper’s paintings from the 1920s to the 1940s. “I believe the initial goal was achieved, to show contemporary viewers the vitality that was the Union Station Harvey House,” Rotach said in a statement. The Harvey House restaurants were the creation of Fred Harvey, who ran his company from an office within Union Station. The dinnerware on display is part of a collection of about 300 pieces of china and silverware. They include items used in Harvey House restaurants on the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway system as well as the Kansas City Southern Railroad. The items and the painting are a gift to Union Station from the Michael and Marlys Haverty Family Foundation. Michael Haverty is president of the board of Union Station Kansas City and executive chairman of Kansas City Southern. Manchester City's Premier League triumph a stepping stone to even more trophies, insists Yaya Toure

“I think the fans may enjoy it more because now we have fantastic players,
they are growing.
“They have fantastic talent and I think next year we will get more cups than
this year.”
Toure limped off just before half-time in the decisive game and could only
watch as City fell 2-1 behind, before coming back to win 3-2 in injury time.
The 29 year-old said: “It was unbelievable. When we had 10 minutes left I was
thinking we needed a goal to try to help us.
“With all this season, always doing well, to have lost the Premier League at
home – it would have been a disaster, I think I can say that.
“I am very happy. I think the team deserves it, the fans deserve it, the boss
deserves it. I think all this club deserves it this year.
“That was the character of the team, the winning mentality. The team did
fantastically well.
“We proved all the players on the pitch wanted to fight for this club, to win
something for this club, to be part of history for this club.”
With Manchester United winning at Sunderland, the title was heading back to
Old Trafford as injury time approached with City still trailing.
Edin Dzeko gave City hope with an equaliser in the second minute of stoppage
time before top scorer Sergio Aguero snatched it in the last attack of the
game.
Aguero, who finished his first season at City with 30 goals, said: “The only
thing I can say is I am really happy.
“The truth is we can hardly believe it ourselves.
“We thought the Premier League had gone. Thank God it all worked out for us.
“We got two goals in five minutes, it was absolutely unbelievable.”
Two of the more controversial figures in City’s season were also thrilled by
the outcome.
Carlos Tevez, who infamously missed six months of the campaign over a dispute
with the club, said: “I am very, very happy. The game was out of this world.
“When you are putting an end to such a long run without winning a title, you
are always going to have to do it the hard way.
“It was absolutely incredible. This club have got the players that can win
lots of trophies, this is a real big step towards that.”
After returning to the side in the past two months, Tevez recently said he
would like to stay at the club despite his attempts in January to engineer a
move.
The striker said: “Let’s hope we can win more and more trophies. I feel very
happy at winning this league title.”
Mario Balotelli made his first appearance in six games as he came off the
bench with 14 minutes remaining and had a hand in the winner.
The Italian said: “It was better to win like that than 6-0, when you are sure
to win.
“United have suffered a little bit, it is better for us.
“When I was on the bench, warming up with Micah (Richards) and they scored
their second goal, Micah was upset but I said, ‘Don’t worry, we will win’.
“That’s what we did. I thought it was really possible. I believed in it and I
was right.”
Playmaker David Silva is also hoping the team can move on to greater things
next season.
The Spaniard said: “We made the game very hard for ourselves but we kept
battling until the end.
“We managed to pull it off and I am really happy. This team is just getting
better and better and let’s hope next season we’ll be even better.”

On TV: Setanta: HAVING BEEN “tweaked” to within an inch of its existence in the last few years, this season’s Setanta Sports Cup draws to a conclusion this afternoon at the Oval in Belfast where a high quality game would at least allow the organisers to embark on their annual rethink while on something of a high.
Attendances have dropped off badly and the commitment of some of the competing sides has again been open to question but the fact that the final will be contested by clubs from opposite sides of the Border has helped to generate interest in the decider.
Neither side goes into the game in the sort of form they would have liked, however. Derry City, whose fans would particularly love to see their club lift this trophy, were well beaten by St Patrick’s Athletic at home last week and haven’t really looked in great shape, in no small part because of injuries, since their remarkable semi-final first leg defeat of Shamrock Rovers.
Crusaders, meanwhile, are coming into the game off the back of a bit of a hiding by Linfield in the IFA Cup final last week and Stephen Baxter’s men have actually only won twice in all competitions since their 4-0 league defeat of Glentoran at today’s venue more than a month ago. Baxter will have to pick his men up after last week’s loss and hope that they embrace the opportunity for “one last hurrah,” as he puts it. Veteran centre-half Paul Leeman, a former team-mate of City boss Declan Devine, admits that becoming first Irish League side to lift the trophy since 2005 is a tall order but, he says, “after beating Sligo Rovers we are entitled to believe we have a chance”.
Devine, meanwhile, has players back after what has been a tough spell with injuries. Rory Patterson came through 90 minutes last week and should start again while Owen Morrison and Patrick McEleney should also be available for selection.
Kevin Deery, though, is out with a dislocated kneecap while Stewart Greacen (knee) and Mark Farren (hamstring) are also sidelined leaving Devine with cracks to paper over if the dream of an all-Ireland title is to be delivered.
